QUAILTY ENHANCEMENT CELL

QEC at QUEST was established through an executive order in March 2006 and Prof. Dr. A. H. Memon was given the charge as Director.

2. Prof. Dr. Mahmood Memon was assigned the responsibility as Dean, QEC in October 2006.

Mission
Quaid-e-Awam University of Engineering, Science & Technology, is relatively a new university. The mission is: To improve quality of education To expand areas of education, particularly in the fields of Engineering, Science and Technology. To ensure that systematic quality research is carried out in every department.
Vision
Our vision is to endeavour, and employ all the efforts to raise the standard of education at Quaid-e-Awam University of Engineering, Science & Technology Nawabshah to the international level, so that this university may find a place in the world class institutions of high learning.

Aims & Objectives
► The major aim to establish Q.E.C at QUEST is to raise the standard of education by applying the procedure of self-Assessment and by getting the feedback from students, graduates, employers, writers and other well-educated persons.
► Academic audit shall be the regular feature of Q.E.C.
► Motivation of students as well as teachers is an other objective of Q.E.C at QUEST.
► Counseling is one of the motives of Q.E.C.
► Not only the teaching but examinations will also be monitored.

The main role of Program Teams is as follows:

· To conduct surveys for the Self-Assessment as per guidance of the QEC,
· To prepare & submit Self-Assessment Report (SAR) to QEC through the Chairman/ Director and Dean Concerned within the prescribed time,
· To coordinate with Assessment Team ( At present Steering Task Committee ) during conduct of assessment,
· To participate in meetings with AT, QEC team and Dean Concerned,
· To prepare Implementation Plan based on AT findings and take corrective actions,
· To coordinate with the QEC,
· Any other assignment given by the competent authority form time to time.

Appraisal Seminar
One day Appraisal Seminar was held on 17-05-2007 which was attended by all the teachers and officers of QUEST.
Prof. Dr. Mahmood Memon talked about Vision, Mission, Aims & Objectives, Action Plan, Evaluation Proformae and other relevant matters.
Prof. Dr. Abdul Hameed Memon explained the procedures of Self Assessment.
A series of similar seminars will be arranged for the students

The system of education is the term system. An academic year is divided into two terms and the University offers eight terms (four-year) course leading to Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science and Mathematics.
Students of all disciplines are also required to study some basic subjects in social studies, mathematics as well as some belonging to other branches of engineering, which are generally taught by the concerned departments.
At the end of fourth year, after satisfactory completion of the courses in all respects and having passed all the examinations held from time to time by the University, the degree of Bachelor of Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science or Mathematics is awarded.
The postgraduate research is also being offered in the fields of Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Systems Engineering and Information Technology leading to M.Phil and Ph.D in these fields

Central Library



The Central Library has in stock more than 8100 book titles and about 41000 total books related to engineering, science and technology, which is now being housed in the new building near B-Sector. A number of engineering and technology research journals from U.S.A. and U.K. and other countries are on current subscription. Local periodicals are also acquired every month.

There are more than 9000 textbooks in the Book Bank, which are loaned to students for one term on nominal charges. The collection of books is updated continuously and additional books are acquired on the recommendation of senior and subject teachers, which makes the collection most suited and beneficial to the students.

Besides the textbooks, the latest reference materials are also acquired every year to keep the users of the Library abreast with the latest knowledge. Latest text and reference books and journals worth Rs.1.566 million have been added during the fiscal year 2006-2007 to further upgrade the library.

Apart from serving readers with in-house collection, services of inter-library loan, journal articles and photocopies of literature from other national and international libraries are also provided.

Besides the Central library, individual departments have established their own seminar libraries, which cater to specific needs of the departments.

Efforts are being made to computerize all the essential functions of the library.

The facility of digital library is also available where 25000 Research Journals and 500 books can be accessed free for research purpose provided by HEC on line. Students can also avail this facility for their thesis Project purpose.

The Central library has availed VISA Card facility in order to acquire latest books/ research materials direct from publishers on line.

Admissions Info

Admissions to the first year class for all the degree courses are made according to the policies laid down and rules framed by the authorities of the University from time to time. The number of seats are fixed for the urban and rural areas of each district in Sindh including Karachi division. There are other categories of candidates also who are eligible for admission, which are described in detail in the subsequent clauses. The University reserves the right to make any changes in the admission rules if deemed necessary after printing of this Prospectus without notice. The whole process of admissions is conducted and finalised by Admission Committee appointed for this purpose by the Vice-Chancellor, which announces all results, decisions, etc., with due approval of the Vice-Chancellor.
